Recently I have been hearing some good advice from various sources; TV, the internet, friends, family, sermons, and even kids. (Sometimes their ideas are so profound).
Now I am still in favor of the Ten Commandments but life seems very complex lately and we need a little more help. I've included a few hints of my own that I'm convinced that are workable also. I'm not giving the reasons for these little guideposts...maybe in future. Meanwhile, you'll probably be able to see right away the value of these twenty rules...or maybe not. Think it over.
And don't be offended. I'm not claiming to have mastered all these behaviors. I wish! But I am making an effort.
1. Show up
2. Be on time
3. Do what you say you will do
4. Don't do what you say you won't do
5. Take responsibility for your actions
6. Learn to read (if you don't know how)
7. Read
8. Learn another language
9. Visit another country
10. Be honest
11. Be trustworthy
12. Stay out of debt, if possible!
13. Obey the law of the land
14. Stay away from alcohol and tobacco (and drugs, too)
15. Don't risk your life with stupid stunts
16. Learn acceptable manners
17. Be kind
18. Seek after the praiseworthy
19. In almost every situation keep your mouth shut
20. Be of good cheer
There are a few others, like: mind your own business, call your mother, and floss!
I don't know about you, but I want to be happy - and I can't be happy wallowing around in the negative. Sometimes I observe rebellion around me; some folks just can't resist all the garbage. Are they saying, "Look at me! I'm so naughty!"? I don't know. Maybe they're more comfortable with low-life activities. Even some church going folks revel in gossiping about the misdeeds of their friends. But whatever the motive, they may derive some satisfaction from it now, but later they may be sorry they judged their friends harshly. When all is said and done, it's so much better just to let it all go pretend everything is just peachy. Oh...and do call your mother, I wasn't kidding about that.
